Find yourself in Tobago Author: Ray Sloper SELTAB
Executive TOURS & Transfers.
On
a visit to Tobago one might think that there
is not much to do or see on the island as most of us would tend to stay and
“lime” down the southern end of the island, and although this is the busiest
end of the island it is by no means the only place on the island to visit. As a
tour operator based on the island who has actively encouraged more of our
“Local” tourist to “re-discover” the island with us, what they, (the ones who
have dared to be different) have found has totally astonished them, as most of
what they learned on one of our island tours, they would not normally have
known about.
The
list of tours and things to see and do while in Tobago can keep you busy for
the better part of a week and will cover most of the sights on the island.
These can include Tobago’s rich & captivating history, its colorful &
vibrant culture, its abundant flora & fauna, its magnificent main ridge
rain forest, which proudly carries the title “The oldest protected reserve in
the Western Hemisphere” visit one of the museums on the island and for those a
little more daring, exploring the many reefs around the island through one of
the many certified Dive Operators on the island, or you may decide to go all in and experience the luxury and
excellence of the only “Live aboard all inclusive Dive boat ” on the island
where your every need is catered for.
For those who
enjoy water sports, but prefer to be on the surface, then Tobago is
definitely your one stop shop, wind surfing, kite surfing, wake boarding, Para
sailing, jet skiing just to name a few can be done on the island.
Adventurous
“Land lovers” can also partake in trail bike riding, off road ATV. Riding as
well as, off road 4 x 4 wheel experiences, or even visit the Little Tobago Bird
Sanctuary where a host of marine birds can be seen from the lookout, these can
all be arranged for you on request.
An example of an island tour
follows:
An
Island tour which can easily be done in a day, approx. 6 hrs which circum-navigates
approx two thirds of the island, and has been specially designed for seeing the
best of Tobago in one day. This tour can
starts from both Crown Point
or the Speyside area and makes its way around the island.
This
tour includes on-board refreshments, lunch with a soft drink; this is where you
can enjoy the mouth watering delights of a locally prepared meal. Stops include
the Argyle Waterfall, where, water conditions permitting we have a short swim
in the cool refreshing Argyle fall. We will also visit some of the many forts
on the island where the powder bunker (visible remains at fort George, James,
Bennett & Milford) with either 6 and or 8 pound British made canons still
standing watch over the waters around Tobago, or even the magnificent 18 pound
mortar only visible at fort George.
We
also visit the Arnos Vale water wheel & Historic park where you will see
one of the more unique sites in Tobago’s …a 200 year old sugar mill which is
still fully in-tact and is a must see if you have the time. We also drive
through the oldest Rain forest in the western hemisphere, established since the
16th century and as such carries the title “The oldest protected
reserve in the Western Hemisphere” We follow
the North-side road stopping along the way for the various photo stops.
Along
the narrow winding roads of the Caribbean coast we will have ample opportunity
of seeing some of the most picture perfect beaches on the Island Parlatuvie, Castara Bay and Englishman’s Bay where local
craft is available for sale.
We
also get to stop off at the Speyside lookout overlooking the village of
Speyside and Little Tobago, this is also where we can have lunch at the famous
tree house restaurant, for extended options we can go further to Charlotville
where you get some breathtaking views of the bay as we make our way down the
winding hill to the bay before making our way back down to Crown Point.
Although the sequence of what we see and when may differ on the day it is all
planned with your enjoyment in mind.
